Development Work 2

Meredith's "Sleep" Project

Photoshoot

Taking inspiration from Meredith Andrews’s “Sleep” project. I had the idea of how people could go from sleepy and the living dead, to bright, ready to go and alive in the mornings. Showing the gradual process of getting ready in the morning with coffee to help. Demonstrating how coffee (Espresso) can change a person completely, giving them energy to wake up and start the day, a drug in its own right to many people. Playing off the idea that some people need coffee to just function in the morning and throughout the day, it is like a drug to them. Needing coffee as a necessity to life and not just a hot beverage.

For this project I had to make sure my four models; Eden, Oliver, Edith and Aimee looked sleepy. This meant the girls had to strip the make-up off and look natural. I had to make sure they all had their pyjamas on and had bed hair. This required me styling their hair to look like they had just dropped out of bed, ensuring their clothing was right and get them in a tired and sleepy mood.

These are the photographs I came up with when doing each of the photoshoots.

I plan to gradually make them look alive and ready for everyday life, I had to fix their hair and make-up gradually and make sure I direct them in what I want them to look like and how I want them positioned.
I've decided to do seven photographs, showing the different stages of getting ready in the morning with coffee as you can see above.
I sorted through hundreds of photographs of each model and select seven of the beast photographs showing the stages and the expression of the model in each.

The lighting was a bit difficult to get right the first time with these shoots. It was imperative I got the lighting just right in these shoots as the photographers I have been looking at have all used excellent lighting to showcase their work. With each model the lighting had to be different according to their skin tone and what they were wearing, I sorted this by either playing with the brightness on the lights, the ISO or re-setting the aperture on the camera. I used a tripod to in these photoshoots. I thought that I will be moving around to help with the hair and make-up of my models, so I will need to make sure the camera stays in the same place on a tripod, to be consistent with the shots. I also had the models all sit on the same stool in the same place for each of the shoots to again keep with the consistency
